Hot, Hot, Hot

Summer is officially here. I feel like the last month was a tease with it being only 80-85 degrees and no humidity. I almost forgot what summer in the south is like until this week. It has been miserably hot and thank goodness we are heading to Oregon next week for a month. Us Oregonians are wimps when it comes to humidity! The past few days we have done most of our activities inside with some outside water ones.

An afternoon of playing in the kitchen and copying what Mommy is doing(whenever Henry sees one of us standing against a counter or wall, he comes and stands in the exact same way). It usually leads to a dance party:

This morning we went to the children’s museum which is always a lot of fun, especially if I have an extra set of hands to watch both kids.

Starting off with Claire’s favorite exhibit, the “animal doctor”:

Up next for Henry it was the water tables and Claire the convertible car. She eventually picked up a straggler:

After that a trip to the grocery store was a must followed by an important phone call for Henry and car repair for Claire:

This afternoon we beat the heat by playing with the pool and water table. Claire insisted on wearing no shirt like Henry:

As fun as these activities are, we are looking forward to Oregon and some relief!

Rainy Days

The last couple of days have been very Oregon-like: rain, rain, and more rain. Our new favorite activity is fort building. The kids love it and I must admit Paul is quite the expert fort builder. He is out of town for a few days and I am a complete failure at constructing forts!

In other news: Henry is terrified of shadows, especially his. It took me a minute to figure out why he was standing, staring at the floor, and crying, terrified. This is what he ended up doing:

He backed into a corner and wouldn’t move until I picked him up. Poor guy.

Concerts On The Green

Every Sunday, Davidson has a band play on a green area near the public library as part of a summer concert series. Last year we were a bit too out of sorts to try and make it to one. So tonight, we packed our picnic dinner and took Claire(we splurged and had Henry stay with a babysitter so we could actually enjoy the music as well). Claire had a great time. She went right up next to the stage and loved watching the musicians. It was a reggae band so she loved dancing with the music. I think she finally got overheated or over tired because she started to do crazy dance moves and saying odd phrases, so we went home. I think we’ll bring Henry along next time and we’ll tag team the chasing.

Eating our picnic dinner:

At one point, the lead singer walked into the audience and she became very concerned that he was getting too close:IMG_7988
