Zoo, Blueberries, and The Ocean

That pretty much sums up what we have been up to the last week. Paul left last weekend so I took the opportunity to take Claire up to the Oregon Zoo in Portland when we dropped him off. I haven’t been to the zoo since I was very little so I think I was more excited than she was to go. I wasn’t sure how she would react to the animals since she has never seen “wild” animals before. At first, she was thrilled because we rode a school bus from the parking lot to the zoo. We have a bus stop next to our house and she is always asking how old will she be when she gets to ride the bus. The fact that she got to skip ahead two years and ride the bus made it worth the trip. She insisted on keeping her backpack right next to her and not on the floor; also that I not sit next to her, so grown up already (sniff):

Once there, she took a trip to ice cream to really warm up to the idea of seeing the animals. Once I got some sugar in her, she was all about seeing all the animals. Her favorite, the elephants!

We have also been loving Oregon berries. My parents have blueberries in their backyard and it didn’t take long for the kids to discover them and eat them all up. Yummy!

Today, I finally took the kids to the Oregon Coast. We actually had a wonderful day of sun and very little wind, which for the coast is pretty rare. It felt somewhat warm! On our way there, Claire kept telling us all that she was going to “swim in the pool at the beach”. She didn’t quite understand that the NW Pacific Ocean is not a warm place to swim. Both kids had a blast playing the the sun and the sand. Thankfully, Henry didn’t try and eat the sand but only wanted to dump it on his head. Claire told me when I put her to bed tonight that we are going there tomorrow.

As you may have noticed, Claire’s outfit of choice these days are her Minnie shirt and jean shorts. She even wants to wear them to bed (Don’t worry, they are washed regularly). Today she insisted on wearing her Minnie sunglass all day and kept telling us her name is, “Minnie”. I’m a little sad about all the clothes she isn’t wearing. When does this stage end?

Oregon Update

We have been loving our time in Oregon and the relief from miserably hot weather back home. It’s been great to see our family and watch the kids have fun with the grandparents. Here are some photos of our time here so far:

We had a great, quiet 4th with great food and family!

Afterwards, Paul and I took a much needed vacation to Bend to visit our wonderful friends, Laura and Ryan (thanks for having us, we had a wonderful time!). We then drove to Walla Walla to visit family. On the way to Walla Walla we had amazing scenery and I couldn’t resist the chance to try out my camera:

Once in Walla Walla, we spent some time with family and explored the beautiful wine country.

On our way back we stopped by Multnomah Falls. Absolutely beautiful!

While we were gone the kids had fun with all the grandparents and family(a HUGE thanks!!).

We had a nice time but we were very happy to see the kids again! Paul is leaving tomorrow to head back to Charlotte(silly work…). The kids and I are here for a few more weeks. We are excited for more family and Oregon summer!
