Claire had school conferences last week and it went great. A proud parent moment: she knows all her letters, letter sounds, numbers up to a few hundred, and is doing great with geometric shapes. She is making friends and is still very social with her classmates. The one thing the teacher said she needs to work on is her voice level, which is no surprise to us! Since she had a bit of a rough transition in the beginning of school with missing being at home and the long day, it has been reassuring to know she is now happy to be at school and participating. We set some goals with her teacher for the school year which was great. Since she is already doing well with a good amount of sight words we are trying to encourage her to read more. The issue with Claire’s personality is that she is only willing to do something if it’s her idea or when she is ready. We are not pushing her because that just becomes a huge battle. At library time at school she has been bringing chapter books home based on the cover(very common for this age) so it’s been hard to encourage reading when it’s not level appropriate. This weekend she was really into trying to sound out the book and “practice” reading. It was completely her idea and it has been fun watching her practice. Yesterday morning she decided this was a nice place to read:
The dog in the picture is Bravo, Aunt Teresa’s dog. So no dog for us yet, even though I would totally steal him away! He is a very sweet dog. Henry decided to join her in the driveway:
